PROFILE OF THE COLLEGE COUNCIL




MDLALO, Mangaliso
CHAIRPERSON of the College Council

Mr Mdlalo has comprehensive experience in community development and poverty alleviation in relation to the development of SMME capacity. His skills range from management, finance and administration, change management, mergers, acquisitions, mentorship, social corporate and community-participation based interventions. Mr Mdlalo work with various and diverse stakeholders including community, church, youth, woman groups, local municipalities, corporate business, political parties and civic associations. He is currently the Director of several companies such as, Tamarron Trading 113 (Pty)Ltd, Afrizone 144 CC, Phillipi Market Operating Company (Pty) Ltd, Ntshona-Koloni Consortium and Izinongo Investments (Pty) Ltd.


FIGAJI, Brian D (Prof)
DEPUTY
CHAIRPERSON of the College Council

Professor Brian Figaji has been associated with the former Peninsula Technikon for more than 25 years. During this time he has established himself in Higher Education Leadership and Management as well as Planning and Policy Development. Currently he represents South Africa at United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in Paris.


ISAACS, Jannie
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER of the College of Cape Town

Mr Isaacs has been involved in vocational education for his entire teaching career. He has been associated with a number of vocational educational institutions, both as an educator and a manager. Mr Isaacs is the Chief Executive Officer.


GIERDIEN, Ali

Mr Gierdien, a retired businessman has been involved in a range of commercial and business ventures, ranging from housing developments to security services. He has furthermore been involved in leadership positions in organisations such as the Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well as Business Cape. He serves on a number of community platforms and is still actively busy in business structures. He is closely aligned and actively involved in both politics as well as religion. He takes a keen interest in community and developmental engagements.


HARDISTY, Gary

Mr Hardisty is a qualified chartered accountant with more than 22 years of commercial experience. He has been associated with a number of multinational corporates. He takes a keen interest in and specializes in Property and Portfolio Management and doing so has handled major projects. He is currently associated with Old Mutual Properties.


JACOBS, Bonakele M

Mr Jacobs is a graduate from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). He has been teaching from 2004, but is currently studying full time at CPUT. Mr Jacobs takes a keen interest in Student Leadership and Development.


JACOBS, Jay-Ann

Ms Jacobs, a qualified attorney, practices in the regulatory areas of law and provides advice to both the private and public sector clients on their interaction with one another as well as government. Apart from the afore-mentioned, she is also a Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BEE) specialist and has also been involved in Competition Law, particularly merger notifications to the Competition Commission. She currently holds the position of Director: Corporate and Commercial Law with Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr Inc., one of the leading national corporate law firms and is based in Cape Town.


MACK, Luleka L

Ms Mack has been closely associated and involved in the banking sector. She has progressively moved up the ladder from a junior clerk to her current position of Branch Manager with Nedbank. She has equipped herself in arrange of managerial competencies, ranging from Supervisory Skills, to Coaching, Marketing, etc


MBENGO, Isaac T

Mr Mbengo has a longstanding relationship with education and has been the principal of a senior secondary school for most of his teaching career before joining the college sector. Mr Mbengo is the Deputy Chief Executive Officer: Corporate Services.


PETERS, Ebrahim

Mr Peters has been associated with vocational education and training for almost 25 years. Being qualified as a boilermaker he joined the teaching profession and has progressively moved through the ranks to his former position as Senior Manager responsible for Engineering. Mr Peters is the Deputy Chief Executive Officer: Education and Training.


PIETERSEN, Anthony E

Mr Pietersen has a longstanding association with education. He has 39 years of which 20 years in Management and 9 years in senior management of the various education departments. Mr Pietersen is currently the Director responsible for the Education District for the Central Metropole in the Western Cape Education Department (WCED).


POTGIETER, Elsie (Mrs)

Mrs Potgieter has been associated with vocational education and training for 24 years. She has been associated with several colleges both as a lecturer, manager as well as senior manager. She has been exposed to a variety of aspects of college Education and Management. She is the Deputy Chief Executive Officer: Innovation and Development.


SCHEEPERS, Hilton

Mr Scheepers has been associated with vocational education and training for more than 20 years. Having been trained as an artisan in the automotive field, he has been involved in different engineering related fields. He has been actively involved in teaching for years and currently heads the Linkages and Programme Unit of the college. In this position he is responsible for establishing partnerships in training and development, with both private as well as public enterprises.


STEMELA, Dolly BN

Ms Stemela has been involved in Human Resources Management. In this regard she has been involved with several organisations and is currently the Senior Human Resource Manager for the Post Office in the Western Cape. She takes a keen interest in, amongst other Training and Development, Employee Wellness and Organisational Development. She is furthermore associated with a number of national organisations, where she serves in leadership positions.


THOMAS, Gary

Mr Thomas is qualified as an electrician and has been involved in the private sector until he turned to the teaching profession. For more than 20 years he has been closely associated with vocational education and training. Apart from his teaching responsibilities he has also been exposed to a range of college related activities.


VAN NIEKERK, Louis

Mr Van Niekerk has enjoyed a longstanding relationship in technical and vocational education. Qualifying as an artisan, he joined the educational profession and served in several positions with a number of educational institutions, which includes heading the former Western Province College. Mr Van Niekerk is the Chief Financial Officer.


MASHANGOANE, Tshepo
Chairperson: SRC

Mr Mashangoane is a Business Management N5 student at the City Campus. He is involved in the Peer Education Programme on the campus as well as the promo group, which deals with social issues for the youth. He takes a keen interest in sport and is actively involved in soccer and cricket.


MBIJANE, Thandiswa
Deputy Chairperson: SRC

Ms Mbijane is a NC(Voc) Level 3 Office Administration student at the Guguletu Campus. Apart from being the deputy chairperson she also manages the portfolio of Academic Officer. She is amongst other involved in Arts and Culture at the Baxter theatre as well as doing script writing and poetry.
